Best Friend Appetite
US families are at home treating their dogs as part of the family, in some parts of the world, dogs are caged, beat, killed and cooked. Are they made to be both pets and menus?
In some countries like Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam, dog meat eating is common. Opposite to what is happening in the western. They are being pampered and even trained. History tells that eating of dog meat was most common in Korea. The older generation ate dog meat due to different reasons: improving virility, cure for summer heat, cure for some illness, and recovery aid after an illness and improving good skin for women; how I could not find out i googled and searched but at the hospital I work at many Phillippiono women told me its has a use in skin care like aloe vera.
There are different means of killing a dog and many critics find it as an act beyond being humane. Some are caught, caged, hung, and boiled. Some are even beaten so hard that too much pain is being inflicted to the animal. However it is not realized by many that food dogs are not pets and they have no names. They are bred in farms, just like pigs, beefs, lambs, chicken and other animals. They are probably bred in cages, which may be cruel but is common in farms anywhere in the world. They are put down "humanely" just like any other animal used for food, usually by slitting the throat and bleeding the animal until it passes out. Phillipionos is mad at foreigners who complain about eating dogs in Korea, where dogs are livestock, not pets. I read that the French too ate dog through the 1800s, and the U.S. even today kills up to 3,000 dogs a year to use in puppy food.
With my mother having I Ace Venture complex when I was growing up I can not imagine eating a dog. I understanding raising them as live stock for a culture who practice dog eating, because even McDonald's went through a phase of using horse meat for their beef products that's why all their ads now are claiming %100 beef. I feel like if we as a culture decided to make chickens pets would the world stop eating chickens and start paying for chicken meal, vet visits, or chicken sweaters? I am happy I can order a chicken Challipua and not a Perro Burger with extra cheese.

I understand what you are saying and it's very scary for me to think like that and it even hurts me. My dog is groomed once a month and my mom treats him like her son that she always wanted. I just got another puppy about a week ago and I just can imagine eating the cute little guy, but in other countries it is completely okay?! Its just wrong. I mean im not a vegeterian.. I wish I could be, but I just dont have enough self discipline to be. But that's an interesting point about the chicken thing. My co-worker does have 4 chickens at her house though, but they just give her eggs and stuff. She doesn't pamper them. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds gross but it's true. I remember when I first read stories about dogs as meat in other parts of the globe. It bothered me but it made me learn that we in the US see dogs differently. I think if we had chickens as pets most people would still eat them. Pigs are also pets but that doesn't mean that Americans stop eating them. I understand that other countries see dogs as food/livestock. I know it, but I still see dogs as cute pets.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't like big dogs, but I am in love with smaller dogs. However, the fact that the U.S. is just killing off over 300,000 dogs annually, is entirely upsetting. I wonder why there hasn't been any protests, I am an owner of 5 dogs, if they ever get lost I would be sick. My aunt treats her dog better than her own children, seriously. She would dress her up in baby t-shirts. Now the dog has over 172 outfits(I counted!)
